To help get middle and high school aged children’s well checks and sports physicals completed in time for summer sports and the next school year we will hold three Saturday clinics for children who are 10 years of age and older. These clinic days are exclusively for well checks and/or sports physicals. For other concerns, you will need to make a separate appointment during our regular office hours. The dates of our Saturday well check clinics are March 25, April 22 and May 13 from 8:00 until Noon.More
It is important for growing children and teenagers to continue with their annual checkups even if immunizations may not be due. Catching problems such as high blood pressure, kidney problems, diabetes or other health problems at a younger age can help to prevent complications that may cause long term health problems. Our summer schedule fills rather quickly once summer arrives. There are immunizations required even in middle and high school aged children which need to be given. In addition, teenagers who are involved in sports may need a sports physical. If your child’s sports physical is after February 1st it will be accepted for the next entire school year. Now is the time to arrange for a well check, and if needed get a sports physical done at the same time.More
Flu season is approaching and we are planning to have our annual Saturday flu shot clinic on October 15, 2016. Unfortunately, not all vaccine suppliers can tell us when to expect our vaccination order so the date is subject to change. You can watch for any further announcements here or on our Facebook page.
We recommend that all children be vaccinated against influenza. Call to reserve your child’s flu vaccination before flu season arrives.
In the past year, the nasal flu vaccination was found not to be as effective as previously thought. Therefore the nasal flu vaccination is not being recommended this year and we will only be offering flu shots this season.
If you intend to have your child vaccinated against influenza please call our office to reserve a vaccine for your child.
Everyone knows to bring your child to the Dr.’s office when they’re sick, but did you know they should have an annual well-child exam? These are a few things we do at Well Check-ups that we don’t do routinely for sick visits:
- Check immunization status
- Monitor growth and development
- Monitor and discuss nutrition and eating habits, screen for anemia
- Discuss sleep patterns and problems
- Screen vision, hearing, scoliosis, and kidney function
- Perform sports physicals or pre-op physicals at the same visit
- Check cholesterol, triglycerides and blood glucose if needed
Also, most insurances now cover annual well checks at no cost to the patient, including NO COPAY.
